Choosing a Surgeon for Your Cataract Procedure

In choosing a surgeon it is important to select one with experience, Dr's. Wade and Mayo were two of the first surgeons in the Houston area to use the Restor and Toric implants and Dr. Wade has implanted more Restor lenses than any surgeon in the Houston area and is one of the top 10 Restor surgeons in the US. Dr. Wade and Mayo both are very experienced at Laser Vision Correction having done over 40,000 cases which is important because approximately 10% of Restor patients will require a small Laser Vision Correction at 6 weeks post-op to help treat astigmatism.

Dr. Wade and Mayo are both Board Certified eye surgeons who graduated at the top of their class at two of the most prestigious Medical Schools in the country - Baylor College of Medicine and UT Southwestern in Dallas.

They both went on to train at two of the most preeminent residency programs for eye surgeons in the US - Baylor and Wills Eye Hospital - where both were named Chief Residents. They are trusted by over 200 referring Eye Doctors in Houston who send their patients, their families, and themselves to the Eye Center of Texas for eye surgery.

Evaluating Your Surgeon:

Not all LASIK surgeons have the same skill level or experience. Whether you select Dr. Wade and Mayo or another doctor, candidates should evaluate the following before proceeding with LASIK surgery:

  1. Is your surgeon board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology? Board-certified doctors have undergone additional training and testing. Click here for list of ABO certified doctors: http://www.abms.org/Who_We_Help/Consumers/

  2. Has the FDA, which approves all procedures, hand selected your surgeon to be a part of its clinical trials?

  3. Does your LASIK surgeon have experience treating challenging or complicated cases?

  4. Is your LASIK surgeon responsive to your questions prior to surgery, and does he provide a realistic assessment of your potential based on your lifestyle needs?

  5. What is your LASIK surgeon’s safety record?

  6. What is your LASIK surgeon’s enhancement rate?

  7. How many LASIK procedures has your surgeon performed in his/her entire career?
