Eye Center of Texas Welcomes Four New Residents to Ocular Disease and Refractive and Ocular Surgery Residency Program
Eye Center of Texas is proud to welcome four new residents to its Ocular Disease and Refractive and Ocular Surgery Residency Program: Dr. Serena Everett, Dr. Brynn Montogomery, Dr. Candelario “CJ” Tapi and Dr. Kaylee McDonald.
The 13-month residency program provides advanced clinical training in ocular disease and the co-management of ocular surgery. Under the supervision of Dr. Amanda L. Bachman and Dr. Jill C. Autry, residents gain hands-on experience managing complex eye conditions while working alongside Eye Center of Texas ophthalmologists and optometrists at the practice’s Bellaire, Pasadena, Clear Lake, Sugar Land and Conroe locations.
All four residents recently graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry and bring diverse clinical experiences, research backgrounds and leadership accomplishments to the program.
Residents receive extensive exposure to ocular disease management, cataract and refractive surgery, glaucoma, retina, anterior segment diseases. The program also includes didactic education, scholarly activities and research opportunities, while allowing residents to help educate fourth-year optometry externs.
Dr. Everett developed experience in ocular disease management, specialty contact lenses and laser procedures through clinical rotations and externships. Dr. McDonald’s training emphasized primary eye care, dry eye management, vision rehabilitation and postoperative surgical care. Dr. Tapia brings experience in ocular disease, refractive surgery co-management and patient care leadership, while Dr. Montgomery combines clinical training in pediatrics, glaucoma, specialty contact lenses and low vision care with research experience focused on retinal neuroscience.
Since 1990, Eye Center of Texas has remained committed to advancing eye care through innovation, education and clinical excellence. The residency program reflects that commitment by helping prepare the next generation of optometrists while expanding access to advanced vision care throughout the Greater Houston area.
