Paul J. Stewart, M.D.

Paul J. Stewart, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist, specializing in vitreoretinal surgery and ocular oncology. He was raised in Gainesville, Florida before coming to Houston to attend Rice University, where he graduated Cum Laude with majors in Biology and French. He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine where he also performed his first fellowship, a post-sophomore fellowship in pathology. After completing his ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine as well, Dr. Stewart studied ocular oncology during a fellowship with Dr. Joan O’Brien at the University of California, San Francisco. Upon the completion of his fellowship, he continued at UCSF and was appointed Director of the Ocular Oncology Service.

In this role leading one of the premier ocular oncology practices in the country, he worked with the full range of patients from infants with retinoblastoma to adults with ocular melanoma and lymphoma, with patients both from the western US and all over the globe.

Dr. Stewart also completed a vitreoretinal fellowship at California Pacific Medical Center, one of the leading fellowship programs in the country. He has participated in numerous clinical trials advancing ophthalmic knowledge and published articles and book chapters on a variety of topics in retinal diseases and ocular oncology. In addition to providing quality care, Dr. Stewart is known for being compassionate and patient, having an excellent bedside manner.

He loves spending time with his wife and four young children. He speaks fluent Spanish and enjoys traveling, cooking and collecting wine.
