Now Offering the Visian Toric ICL
Eye Center of Texas is now offering the much-anticipated Visian Toric ICL for patients looking for an alternative to LASIK or those with astigmatism and high prescriptions.
When the Visian Toric Implantable Collamer Lens received FDA approval in 2018, ophthalmologists everywhere in the United States celebrated. Finally, their patients with myopia, astigmatism, and higher prescriptions can leverage Visian Toric ICLs to improve their vision.
Here’s why Visian Toric ICL is giving thousands of new and veteran eye patients the chance at acquiring better vision. (For the purposes of this webpage, make sure you understand the difference between farsighted and nearsighted — hyperopic and myopic, respectively.)
What is the Visian Toric ICL?
Like the Visian ICL, the Visian Toric ICL is an implantable lens that is similar to contact lenses, except these do not require removal. After surgeons implant the ICL, which is made of biocompatible collagen, patients do not have to deal with the daily hassle of maintaining contact lenses.
Can the Visian Toric ICL correct astigmatism?
Yes! In fact, that’s part of the reason why the FDA approval of the lens is such a big deal. Previously, patients with both myopia and astigmatism had to undergo two separate procedures to achieve clear vision: LASIK for astigmatism and Visian ICL (different from Visian Toric ICL) for myopia.
Now, patients unable to have LASIK refractive surgery due to dry eyes (especially dry eyes in winter), thin corneas, or higher prescriptions, have the option to experience results for both issues with one procedure.
Is Visian Toric ICL surgery safe?
Yes! Both Visian ICL surgery and Visian Toric ICL surgery are both safe and effective procedures that only last around 20 – 30 minutes. In fact, one of the reasons why many people opt for Toric ICLs over LASIK is that the procedure is reversible.
