LASER EYE SURGERY
Perhaps you are one of the millions of Americans who are tired of their dependence on glasses or contacts. Or maybe glasses or contacts are interfering with your work or hobbies. Or maybe you just like the way you look without glasses. Whatever your reason, there are now several vision-correcting laser eye surgery options available.
Your laser eye surgery options include:
- Non -Custom Laser eye surgery
- Custom or Wavefront LASIK
- IntraLase LASIK (iLASIK)
- PRK
At the Eye Center of Texas, we only offer the iLASIK procedure. This type of LASIK surgery uses the combination of CustomVue Wavefront Lasik technology and IntraLase technology.
The iLASIK procedure was revolutionized by the use of two computer-guided lasers – instead of one used in earlier generations of LASIK. The first, ultra-fast laser (blade free laser) creates a thin corneal flap, which is then folder back to allow the second laser (CustomVue Wavefront Laser with Iris Registration Technology) to correct your vision based on the exact specification/measurements of your eye(s). We then use IntraLase laser technology (known as iLASIK) during the second part of your LASIK laser eye surgery. This bladeless cool laser provides the safest and most accurate LASIK procedure available and patients.
PRK
If you are not a candidate for LASIK surgery, you may be a candidate for photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). In this type of laser eye surgery, your vision is corrected when the thin outer layer of your cornea is removed or lifted and the laser is used to reshape the layer underneath.
How do you know which surgery is right for you?
We will conduct a thorough no-cost evaluation to help you assess your laser eye surgery options. We will assess:
- Current vision issues
- Amount of recent change in your prescription
- Pupil size
- Cornea thickness
- Eye dryness
- Overall eye health
- Relevant medical history
Allow 1 to 2.5 hours for this pre-laser eye surgery evaluation. We will discuss your options and make a recommendation. If you are not a candidate for laser eye surgery, there may still be other options available to you. Click here to read more about ReSTOR Intraocular Lenses or Implantable Contact Lenses (ICLs).
