LASER VISION CORRECTION

Laser Vision Correction refers to our ability to permanently correct many of the disorders of the eye that cause us to need glasses or contact lenses.  Today there are numerous laser vision correction procedures available such as:

Making a choice about laser vision correction can be confusing.  Let’s compare the two categories of laser vision correction procedures.  In LASIK procedures, a flap is made in the cornea and the correction is made with a laser to the corneal tissue underneath.  In surface surgeries such as photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), there is no flap made.  The thin outer layer of the cornea is removed or lifted and the laser is used to reshape the layer underneath.

There are key differences between these two main categories of laser vision correction procedures, including differences in recovery time, the risks involved, and ideal candidates.

NASA approves Laser Vision Correction!
Stringent eyesight requirements have been the downfall of many aspiring fighter pilots or astronauts.  This single criterion has disqualified more wishful space travelers than any other.  Now the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Air Force, Navy, and the Army will consider candidates who have undergone laser vision correction, as long as they have had the iLASIK (blade free)method.

After much research, it has been determined that the iLASIK procedure are safe even for pilots and astronauts - men and women who are working in such extreme conditions.  Military forces on the ground, too, are finding advantages in laser vision correction.  Reduced dependence on glasses and contacts means improves speed and efficiency and less interference with chemical protective gear or night-vision technology.
