The Eye Center of Texas has 4 Board Certified Ophthalmologists on staff. Our chief LASIK surgeon is Dr. Edward Wade.
Edward C. Wade, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Wade, is a native of El Paso, Texas, graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Illinois and was awarded the Bronze Tablet Award, a distinction given to only the top 2% of the class. He graduated first in his class from Baylor College of Medicine, where he was a member of the honorary Alpha Omega Alpha fraternity, comprised of only the top 10% of the class, and in 1984 was awarded the Michael DeBakey Scholar Award, given to the top medical student in the class. After completing his ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was named chief resident, he completed a fellowship in retinal disease and surgery at the prestigious Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Wade returned to practice in Houston where he is a partner and co-founder of the Eye Center of Texas. He provides a full scope of medical/surgical eye care, including LASIK, PRK, Visian ICL, Intacs, cataract surgery, ReSTOR IOL’s and treatment of glaucoma.
Among his numerous recognitions, VISX named him one of the ‘Top 100 LASIK surgeons in the U.S.’ and he is presently one of a select number of surgeons in Houston that offers “Intacs” for Keratoconus and “ICL”s - procedures for extremely nearsighted people who are not candidates for LASIK eye correction. He is one of the top 20 ReSTOR surgeons in the U.S. and has more experience with the ReSTOR lens than any surgeon in the Houston area. In addition to his practice, he lectures internationally on a variety of eye care subjects, and has published numerous articles.
Dr. Wade speaks fluent Spanish, is a triathelete, played college tennis, loves photography, plays the piano, and is married with a beautiful 14 year old daughter.
Dr. Mark Mayo, LASIK Surgeon
Our other LASIK surgeon is Mark L. Mayo, M.D. Mark is a native Houstonian. He grew up in Spring Branch and attended University of Texas. In 1986, he graduated at the top of his class in the UT Interdisciplinary Honors Program. He went on to attend Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and graduated at the top of his class in 1990.
Dr. Mayo completed his medical internship at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. In 1991 he moved to Philadelphia and completed a three-year residency in surgery at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital. He was named chief resident in his final year there.
In 1994, after graduating from Wills, he returned to Houston and started his practice. In 2007, he merged his practice with the Eye Center of Texas. He enjoys the practice of medicine and he brings the latest in surgical techniques to the practice. He is especially pleased to be a cutting-edge LASIK surgeon in a practice with the latest technology available.
Dr. Mayo has been the Chairman of Surgical Specialties at Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena, Texas and has been on the TOP DOCTORS in Houston listings. He is also the Medical Director for Opticare medical insurer for the entire state of Texas, and is one of 15 physicians in the United States on the Physician Leadership Board for United Surgical Partners Corporation.
Mark is married to Abigail; they have 2 beautiful children, Lily Catherine and Jack Terry. In addition to being a top notch LASIK surgeon, Mark is passionate about golf. He and Abigail also support the Houston Grand Opera and are avid moviegoers.
Together, Lasik surgeons Drs. Wade and Mayo have performed LASIK surgery more than 45,000 procedures. That is a lot of eyes that have been entrusted to their care!
